12 V Gel and AGM

Gel batteries are based on the same principle like liquid lead acid batteries. The electrolyte is thickened with diatomite while the batteries still consist of sulfuric acid. The advantage lies in micro fissures which occur because of the partly drying gel inside of the battery. Those fissures enable an improved exchange of gas between the electrodes. AGM-batteries are similar in structure. But instead of diatomite fiberglass is used (AGM: Absorbant Glass Matt) which absorbs the electrolyte.
